Leading up to the International Student Recruitment Conference 2024 on the 2nd of December, we are delighted to have worked alongside Universities UK International on a joint article focused on the current higher education landscape in the UK.

Insights are included by Harry Anderson, Deputy Director, Policy and Global Engagement, University UK International, and Rachel MacSween, Director of Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement, UK and Europe, IDP Connect.

Key themes in the article include:

  • An exploration of what the sector needs from a new Labour government to help rebuild the UK’s reputation and appeal to international students (including clarity on the Graduate visa), and what the sector needs to do in return for that support

  • Looking abroad: how the addition of international education to the national export strategy in the USA is impacting the local sector

  • How the UK sector is responding to public concerns about the impact that international students have on their local communities

  • Understanding student perceptions and what international students value most with insights included from IDP’s Emerging Futures 5 survey, which polled 13,000 students on their perceptions of the major English-speaking study destinations
